Dr.Thomas M. Dodds, M.D. is chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), an institute recognized for the collaborative nature of their practice and the ability to move across disciplines.
As a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School, Dr. Dodds is board-certified in both internal medicine and anesthesiology, was an early proponent of the perioperative use of beta-blockers and one of the first anesthesiologists involved in the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group, an internationally recognized voluntary association that tracks the management of cardiovascular disease in eight medical centers.
Dodds also majored in economics as an undergraduate at Williams College and in 2002 earned a certificate in business administration from the American Society of Anesthesiology, eventually collaborating in managing the finances of the department and promoting technological, pharmaceutical, and logistical innovations to ease surgery patients through their full hospital stays.
Dodds is recognized by DHMC’s leadership as having had substantive roles in designing outpatient surgery facilities and services, overseeing perioperative services, enhancing service quality and supporting strategies for use of simulation in education and practice. Recent data published out of Dartmouth suggests that routine surveillance monitoring on an orthopedic ward reduces rescue calls and intensive care unit transfers. Based on this data members of Dodds team are working to extend the use of routine patient monitoring more widely.
I have never been to a conference that compares with the atmosphere of Whistler; the intimacy and exclusivity of the meeting is fabulous.
